The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro looks amazing. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
