Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The beloved crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last season concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
