Iran Reports Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a populated district in the capital, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
