Far-Right Ex- Legislator José Antonio Kast Chosen as Chile New Head of State.
After a definitive runoff election, hardline candidate José Antonio Kast has clinched the top job in Chile.
A Resounding Triumph
With over 99% of votes tallied, Kast won 58.17% of the ballots, defeating leftist contender Jeannette Jara, who obtained 41.83%.
This signifies Kast's third presidency, having in the past been defeated by the incumbent president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 second round.
Platform Centered On Security and Immigration
Noted for his unwavering Catholic views and praise for the rule of dictator Augusto Pinochet, Kast's electoral bid was primarily centered on promises to tackle growing crime and radically restrict immigration.
