19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult period, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children together, so to win a title is really nice," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six finals, including in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional title, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent saved 4 early-game break points in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
