Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting With Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the ALCS.
Behind 3-1, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three victory in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, the city, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."
Springer has now connected for 23 October home runs, ranking him third in history after Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another player in the world that I'd prefer in that moment except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he continued.
The Blue Jays secured the title on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
